The Kappa Phi Club has a rich tradition of rituals, traditions, and programming. Each meeting is opened by the lighting of a candle, and the singing of the Kappa Phi Hymn. Meetings are closed by extinguishing the candle and singing a benediction. Membership is celebrated in three Degrees: Degree of the Pine, where interested women begin learning about the organization; Degree of the Light, for full membership; and Degree of the Rose, signifying the transition to alumnae status. National Kappa Phi traditions include the Meal in the Upper Room, which commemorates Christ’s Last Supper; and Yule Log, a Christmas celebration.
Music is also an important part of Kappa Phi’s heritage, and many original songs have been written by Kappa Phi sisters. The words to the Kappa Phi Hymn, which are sung at each meeting, were written by one of Kappa Phi’s founding members, Sara Jacobs. Kappa Phi celebrations also often include the singing of traditional Christian hymns, and many chapters also enjoy singing contemporary Christian praise songs!
Kappa Phi chapters focus their programming and activities around a yearly theme selected by the National Executive Board and the National Program Committee. They choose activities in four main program areas: Worship, Study, Fellowship, and Service.
The Four Program Areas of Kappa Phi
Worship is the celebration of God’s presence and work in our lives.
Studyis our search for knowledge and understanding.
Through Fellowship, we find the support and encouragement of fellow Christians.
Service allows us to share God’s many gifts with others.
